Wood Pellet Boiler System

In 2010 Deeside Activity Park will be changing from a rather unenvironmentally- friendly oil heating & hot water system to a wood pellet boiler system which has almost no carbon footprint.

The wood pellet energy source is a rarely discussed alternative, lesser known than other sources such as solar, wind or tidal power.  But wood is widely available, easily renewable and is effectively carbon-neutral.  This is because as plants and trees grow they suck up carbon dioxide and then they emit the same amount of carbon dioxide as they are burnt.

Wood pellet boilers are fully automatic just like oil and gas boilers. Pellet boilers use advanced microprocessors to control the amount of fuel and air being supplied to the combustion chamber. This ensures extremely high efficiencies (up to 90%) and ultra-low emissions.

We are hoping to have the system up and running near the beginning of 2010, here at the Activity Park running our own heating and hot water, and also powering the brewery and the new office blocks.  In time, we plan to install another district heating system at Cairnton farm, providing all the hot water and heating requirements for Cairnton Bothy and eventually for the further proposed holiday units.
